Parent support in Barcelona

Parenting can raise questions about limits, independence, family life and how to support a child through difficulties. At AlfaBeta we offer a space to understand the situation and agree guidance that fits your family.

  • Via Augusta, 42 · close to Gràcia
  • In person, and online when appropriate
  • Spanish, Catalan and English depending on the professional

(When to consult)

Reasons for consulting

You can contact us about repeated conflicts, difficulties with routines, family changes, disagreements about parenting, concern about a child's behaviour or emotional state, and problems related to screens. Guidance starts from how each family experiences its situation, without looking for someone to blame.

(The work)

How the work is organised

A professional talks with two adults at the practice on Via Augusta

In the first interview we gather the reason for consulting, what has already been tried and how the family is organised.

We agree specific goals and review guidance based on what happens between sessions. Sometimes an assessment of the child or adolescent is also advisable, but this is not assumed from the start.

(Who takes part)

Who takes part

Who takes part depends on the goal of the consultation.

It is important to distinguish guidance for an adult from starting an assessment or treatment of a minor, which requires reviewing their legal representation and the applicable consents. If there is separation or disagreement between legal guardians, we explain how to organise care before starting.

(Format)

In person and online

We can consider online guidance sessions when appropriate.

This format does not automatically extend to any assessment or direct work with the child.

Frequently asked questions

Do we all need to come?

Not in every case. Before the appointment we agree who should take part and what authorisations are needed.

Is this therapy for my child?

Guidance initially works with the adults who are consulting. If a separate process for the child is considered necessary, it is proposed and agreed separately.

Can you help if our child will not see a psychologist?

We can explore how to suggest help and which alternatives are appropriate. We cannot guarantee that the adolescent will agree to come after some guidance sessions.

What do families come about?

Repeated conflict, difficulties with routines, family changes, disagreements about parenting, concern about a child’s behaviour or emotional state, and problems with screens, among others.

Are you going to tell us what we are doing wrong?

Guidance starts from how each family experiences its situation, without looking for someone to blame. We review what you have already tried and agree concrete steps you can use.

What is the first meeting like?

We go over the reason for consulting, what has been tried and how the family is organised. From there we agree goals and review the guidance against what happens between sessions.

What if we are separated or disagree?

Before starting we explain how care can be organised. We distinguish guidance for an adult from starting an assessment or treatment for a child, which requires checking who represents the child and the consents that apply.

Can it be done online?

We can consider online guidance sessions when appropriate. This does not automatically extend to any assessment or direct work with the child.
