Adult neuropsychological assessment in Barcelona

A neuropsychological assessment can help explore difficulties with memory, attention, language or organisation that affect everyday life. At AlfaBeta, Roser Fernández Olaria considers cognitive performance alongside your history, current circumstances and the reason for the assessment.

(When to consult)

When an assessment may be useful

You may wish to discuss changes in memory, long-standing difficulties with attention or organisation, or a recommendation from another professional.

These concerns can have different explanations. The assessment is designed around the questions that need to be clarified.

(The process)

What the process involves

We begin with an interview and relevant background information, then agree on the assessment needed.

Selected tools are interpreted together with the wider clinical picture. A feedback appointment explains the findings and recommendations, including any need for further assessment or coordination with other professionals.

Language and reports

Before starting, we confirm the language of the appointments and report, and whether the available tools are suitable for your language background and the purpose of the assessment. If an organisation requires a particular report format, please share its requirements in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Does forgetting things mean I have dementia?

No. Forgetfulness can appear in many different situations. The assessment takes into account how it has developed, the context and other information to decide what is worth looking into.

Do I need a medical referral?

You can contact us to explain what you would like to discuss. We will tell you what information would be useful and whether a medical assessment or coordination is advisable.

Can I ask for an assessment in English?

You can ask for it when you contact us. Before confirming, we review the appropriate language, the available tools and the scope of the report.

Do you assess adult ADHD?

You can ask about it. The assessment needs to understand how the difficulties have developed since earlier stages and whether they appear in different areas of life. Cognitive tests add information; on their own they neither confirm nor rule out the diagnosis.

What can affect the results?

Sleep, mood, health, medication or context can affect performance. That is why we take them into account, and it helps to mention them before testing.

What does the process involve?

First we clarify what you need to understand and review the information available. We then agree the testing, bring the results together, discuss them with you in a feedback session, and the report sets out conclusions and recommendations.

What happens after the assessment?

Recommendations may include everyday strategies, changes to the environment, psychological or cognitive intervention, and coordination with medicine, neurology or psychiatry. Not every assessment leads to treatment at the practice.

Can I ask for a morning appointment?

Yes. Let us know you prefer the morning when you get in touch, and we will confirm the options available.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the question and the tests needed. After the first interview we explain the proposed sessions, report and feedback, together with the fee, before anything starts.
